As we continue to track the Snowbirds mid January 2025 auto transport prices to Fort Lauderdale, FL and elsewhere in the sunshine state, we notice that the volume of orders on any given day has decreased 10%.

In the beginning of January, there were on average daily about five thousand single vehicles in running condition listed as preferring OPEN Car Transport. That number has decreased in mid January to 4,500 vehicles available at any given time. Still a hefty amount.

That is not to say there are 4,500 new orders every day. There most certainly is not. Many of those vehicles have been waiting for a carrier for anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Why so long?

In some cases the laggard orders are those located in a remote location, or have been affected by harsh winter storms such as Blair.  But most of the orders waiting weeks and weeks, have simply been under-priced and carriers have rejected them in favor of higher paying fees on other vehicles.

Rule #1 – the highest paying vehicles on the board, comparing apples to apples, always ship first. And it does not matter how long a vehicle order has been waiting.

A fresh car shipping order entered today, paying a higher carrier fee than one entered weeks ago, will land a spot on an auto transport trailer first. The vehicle shipping industry is not first come – first served.

Our Study: What percentage of Snowbird vehicle shipments are too cheap?

Our answer is borne of experience. It is not scientific, though it does have a nice scientific pool of orders to evaluate.

Here is our test case scenario: At the present time, car shipping from New Jersey to Florida, there are 99 vehicles on the board waiting for a carrier assignment, all sedans, in running condition, and shipping OPEN car transport. In our opinion, in general, a vehicle priced at $825 or less (including broker fee) has little chance of securing a spot on a trailer until all the higher paying vehicles have shipped. And that will take awhile.

Here’s our analysis of the New Jersey to Florida scenario in mid January 2025:

The same percentages of under priced and cheap car shipping costs play out in nearly every market or region.

The above table is probably a good representation of the current Snowbird vehicle shipping cost market to Florida. As you can see, there are approximately 28% of customer orders that have little to no chance of shipping to Florida in the next few weeks. Many have been waiting for weeks, and are likely to continue to do so.

If you add the 14% of customers who are close, but nevertheless, still getting soundly beat and simply hoping to get lucky, that 28% swells to 42% of customers who are basically on the outside looking in. Their car shipping price is too cheap.

Why does that happen? Sometimes customers book their January car shipments in November or December when pricing is low. It worked then, but not during the high Snowbird season. Sometimes it is the fault of the broker, and that’s a whole other conversation. Don’t get us started.

Fortunately, 58% of customers are priced sufficiently well enough to ship a car within 7 days. Those at the top of the carrier fee pool are likely to get super fast, expedited auto transport service to Florida.

Fort Lauderdale in particular, is a popular destination for car transport companies in the winter. So are the surrounding communities such as Hollywood, Pompano Beach, Plantation, Davie, Sunrise, Coral Springs, Dania Beach, and more.

Car Transport Cost: FAQ

  • Should You Ship Your Car Open or Enclosed?

About 97% of all vehicle shipments are shipped on an Open Trailer. It’s proven to be a very safe method with statistically very few problems. You may notice new cars being delivered to dealerships in an open trailer, and that’s because it’s safe. If you have a collector car or really expensive automobile, say around $75,000 or more, then we recommend shipping it in an Enclosed Trailer. Expect to pay about 33-50% more for an Enclosed transport. Our auto shipping costs calculator automatically adds the extra enclosed car transport estimate to your quote, so you can experiment with the quotes if you like.
  • How Long Will It Take To Pick Up My Vehicle?

Over 90% of our orders ship inside of one week. That could be anywhere from 1 to 7 days. Most of the U.S. population lives in a major metropolitan area and is shipping to another well populated area, and that makes a big difference. Cars usually ship in a very regular manner, almost half within just a few days.

If either your origination or destination locations are away from population centers, in other words, in a remote area, then you might consider meeting a driver in a nearby big city or town to increase your chances of shipping timely. Or adding money to the carrier fee may entice a carrier. Remember, anyone you choose can serve as your point of contact, which takes the stress out of shipping your vehicle.

  • How Do I Prepare My Vehicle For Shipment?

Clean out your vehicle of all loose items as much as possible. Leave nothing of value in the vehicle. It’s very rare that any items are stolen during transport, but we recommend extra caution to prevent loss.

Keep extra items as previously discussed to a minimum and place in the trunk or out of sight. Have only about a quarter tank of gasoline. Give the auto transport carrier a set of keys and advise them of any special instructions for your vehicle, like difficulty starting, steering, braking, etc.

Driver Consideration: Being a truck driver can be a thankless job. They work long hours and are away from their families for weeks at a time. Please be friendly and considerate to our drivers, and they will treat you in the same manner.

  • How Are Car Shipping Quotes Calculated?

The first factor used to calculate car shipping cost is the transport distance. Next are the length, height and weight of the vehicle, followed by running condition and type of trailer (Open or Enclosed). Finally, seasonal fluctuations may impact the overall cost.

  • Non-Running Vehicles Cost More

Maneuvering non-operational vehicles on and off a car transport trailer is a big challenge. Car shipping companies much prefer operational (running) vehicles because it gives them an easier option to reposition their entire load. Non-running vehicles take considerably more time to get on and off the trailer. So the car shipping quote must reflect the higher cost. Many auto transporters don’t have a winch and cannot accommodate non-running vehicles. That is one reason it takes longer on average to ship non-operational vehicles. Fewer do it. If at all possible, fixing your vehicle before trying to ship it will save on the non-running car transport cost, and make the process go faster.

  • How Long Does It Take To Deliver My Vehicle?

Delivering is final step in the process, and also the simplest part. Once your vehicle has been assigned and picked up, not too much can go wrong. Once the vehicle is picked up, you can estimate that it will take roughly 1 day of transit time for every 500 miles distance. Delivery Time Estimate Guide 100-500 miles takes 1 or 2 days 500-1000 miles takes 2 or 3 days 1000-1500 miles takes 3 or 4 days 1500-2000 miles takes 4 or 5 days 2000-2500 miles takes 5 or 6 days 2500-3000 miles takes 6 or 7 days Depending on the distance, weather conditions and population centers it could be a few days or weeks until a vehicle reaches its destination. The carriers usually estimate about 10 days on coast to coast trips, but they frequently arrive earlier.

  • Can I Put Stuff In My Car When I Ship It?

Yes and no. The strict interpretation is no, you can’t ship items inside your vehicle. The reality is that almost all carriers look the other way on items that weigh less than 100 pounds, roughly the equivalent of 2 suitcases. We recommend placing any additional items in the trunk and out of sight. The U.S. Transportation Law states that a carrier can be fined $10,000 for hauling household items in the vehicle, but it’s rarely enforced. However, the drivers do estimate the weight of each vehicle that they carry and don’t want problems at weight scales. So they must keep the personal items to a minimum. Some drivers will accept a tip ($50-$250) for hauling extra stuff, but some won’t. Rule of thumb, don’t take advantage.

Car Shipping Quotes To Riverside, CA In The Winter Season

When we talk about the effect of seasonality on the auto transport industry, it is late December and early January that we most allude. It is chaotic, costly, and stressful during the holidays to ship a car to Riverside.

Once Christmas arrives, the vehicle shipping cost rises incrementally almost daily for four weeks. If a customer booked too early, he will likely have too low a car shipping quote when the time comes to transport. He will have to wait. Or add money to rectify the dilemma.

When Is The Best Time To Ship A Car To Riverside In The Winter?

If at all possible, you should avoid the last two weeks of December and the first three weeks of January. It is chaotic for brokers, carriers, and customers alike.

Other than the holiday blip, the Winter Season tends to be relatively tame when it comes to shipping a car to Riverside. The same applies when transporting a vehicle from Riverside in the Winter as well.

Auto Transport Quotes To Riverside, CA In The Spring Season

The early Spring months in March are very manageable for car shipping to or from Riverside. But starting in late April, and throughout all of May, significantly more vehicles are shipping from Riverside than to it. That serves to drive down the auto transport cost to Riverside in the Spring Season. It is a great time to ship a car to Riverside.

Do Not Book A Car Shipment To Riverside Too Early

In the car shipping industry, as far as the carriers are concerned, it does not matter to them when an order is booked. In other words, it is not first come … first served. So nobody has reserved a spot, a space, on a transport trailer simply by booking their order weeks or even months in advance.

What matters to auto transport carriers are their profits. To that end, they choose orders, which they call loads, that are the highest paying, or logistically make the most sense with an eye always on the bottom line. The carriers seek to maximize their profit, like everybody else.

Do not book a car shipment to Riverside too early. You might be priced too low, in which case, your vehicle will likely be rejected by the carriers and won’t ship. Or if it does ship, it will be the last to do so, and probably far later than you had hoped.

Conversely, booking too early might also mean you unwittingly committed to a higher-than-necessary price to ship your car in a timely fashion. The high price might have been the market rate at the time of booking, but in the interim, car shipping rates may have come down and you won’t enjoy the savings.

It is always best to have the current market pricing, which guards against both too low and too high a transport price.

Book Your Vehicle Shipment To Riverside About One Week Before Availability

Direct Express Auto Transport has been in the car shipping business for a long time. Over twenty years. We say a good rule of thumb is to book your vehicle shipment to Riverside about 7 days before availability.

Most car transport carriers will not commit to a vehicle shipment more than three days in advance of availability. What has anyone gained, therefore, from booking weeks in advance? The answer is nothing, of course.

So why book much earlier than one week before availability?

Car Shipping Quotes To Riverside, CA In The Summer Season

Auto transport to Riverside in the Summer Season is far busier than in the Spring Season. The ratios can be deceiving relative to the volume of activity. The reason there appear to be fewer cars on any given day being shipped to Riverside in the Summer is only because what becomes available doesn’t stay on the load board very long.

Because there are often two or three times more cars shipping from Riverside in the Summer, it creates a high demand for vehicles shipping there. Rest assured that there are still plenty of orders being placed every day in the Summer to Riverside and gobbled up quickly.

Auto transport quotes to Riverside in the Summer Season are less than from Riverside. It occasionally costs about 20-30% more to ship from Riverside in the Summer Season than it does going there.

Avoid Shipping A Car Around The 4th of July

Car transport carrier drivers enjoy being home as much as you do for the 4th of July festivities. The hometown parade. The barbecue with family and friends. A mid-summer rest with the people you love.

The 4th of July holiday creates a backlog of car shipping orders. It gets worse if the 4th falls on a Wednesday, as drivers are divided on whether to enjoy a five-day holiday before or after the 4th of July. Ugh.

If the 4th of July falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, the mini-vacation weekend becomes more clear. But the holiday is slightly prolonged and orders are still backed up in the freight system.

When the carriers get back to work in early July, the highest-paying vehicle shipping orders get assigned first. For about two weeks thereafter, many customers find it both more expensive and frustrating.

The thing to do, and here is your tip, is to avoid vehicle shipping to Riverside the last week of June and the first week of July.

College Students Cause Havoc In Auto Shipping Every August

There is a very discernible car shipping spike every year in the late Summer Season shipping from California. While California has many popular universities and colleges that attract students from all over America, still there are far more California college students leaving the state for universities out-of-state.

That helps make car shipping to California in late August both cheaper and faster.

When is the best time for car shipping quotes to Riverside, CA? Probably the Spring and Summer seasons. Auto transport quotes tend to be lower and service faster. The Autumn and Winter Seasons are more costly.

The Autumn Season is steady for car shipping to Riverside at the beginning (in September) and at the end (November), but is more expensive in October and most of November (until Thanksgiving).

The Winter season is the hardest and most expensive around the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays.

The Spring Season is a good time for vehicle shipping to Riverside.

The Summer Season is a difficult time shipping from Riverside, but that makes it ideal for transport to Riverside.

The Original Car Shipping Quote Calculator To Riverside, California

Direct Express Auto Transport originated the instant car shipping quote calculator in 2004. It is still the best, most sophisticated, reliable tool available online. We offer three options that we call tiers of car shipping quote estimates to Riverside, CA.

The Standard rate is the cheapest car shipping quote. Use the Standard rate if you can be patient.

The Expedited rate, or tier as we call them, is the most recommended and best auto transport quote. We have countless satisfied Expedited rate customers because the vehicle shipping process tends to go quicker.

The Rush rate is our highest level of car transport quotes and service, and many customers are glad they went with that method too. If in a hurry, go Rush rate.

Direct Express Auto Transport Changed The Car Shipping Industry

Direct Express Auto Transport started doing business in 2004. We came into the car shipping industry with a novel idea. Before us, no company had an instant car shipping quote calculator on their website. It simply did not exist.

Further, no car shipping company would even provide an auto shipping quote without first knowing the caller’s personal information, such as name, telephone number, email, and physical address. We were astounded by that. So we threw a monkey wrench of sorts into the industry.

Direct Express Auto Transport installed on our website the car shipping industry’s first instant quote calculator. We did not ask then and do not ask now, for any personal information before giving a quote.

In the auto transport industry, it is not who gets in line first, but rather, who is paying the most on the route with a similar sized vehicle? Like everybody else, car transport carriers are running a business and seek to maximize profit, and they cater to the bottom line. Like it or not, every customer is competing for space on a car shipping trailer. There is such a thing as cheap auto shipping, but only if there is nobody else paying more nearby.

Key Takeaways:

  • How long it takes to ship a car has mostly to do with price. The carrier fee is paramount, with vehicles shipping faster the higher the price.
  • The actual transit time on the road is about one day for every 500 miles distance, plus one or two days for carrier loading and unloading.
  • The car shipping price affects how many days it takes to secure a carrier, then add a few days after assignment for the actual pick up.

In This Blog Article:

In this blog article, Direct Express Auto Transport shares our expertise, honed over 20 years experience as a leading car shipping company, to inform you on what it takes to transport a car successfully.

How Long Does Car Shipping Take?

Step one is the right price to get assigned a carrier. It can make a big difference. Generally speaking, auto transport brokers do not know upon receiving an order, which of the nearly 10,000 car transport carriers will be shipping the vehicle. Broker experience and ethics are important when it comes to proper market pricing of vehicles.

How long car shipping takes starts with the right price in order to get the customer vehicle assigned to a carrier. Priced right and carrier assignment can happen quickly, as in a day or two, or at minimum a few days. Priced too cheap and the customer may wait a week or even longer to be assigned a carrier.

How Long Does It Take For The Car Transport Carrier Pick Up?

The good news is that once a car transport carrier has been assigned to ship your vehicle, things usually happen quickly. Expect one of the following after assignment:

  1. Most carriers pick up the vehicle one day after assignment..
  2. Sometimes carriers pick up the vehicle in two days.
  3. Sometimes carriers pick up the vehicle the same day as assigned.
  4. Occasionally, carriers pick up the vehicle in three days.
  5. Rarely do carriers pick up the vehicle in four days or more after being assigned.

How Long Does Car Shipping Transit Take?

A single auto transport driver will typically traverse about 500 miles per day. So how far is your vehicle shipment? Do the math and add one or two days for the carrier driver loading and unloading at either end. Here are a few examples, or scenarios, and see if any closely resemble your situation.

The Car Shipping Carrier Fee Is The #1 Key Factor

Waiting for a carrier assignment can take as long or longer than the actual car shipment. Think of walking, jogging, or running. Here are three vehicle shipment pricing scenarios for an average 1,500 mile route.

Cheap Auto Transport / Low Pricing

  • 7 days for broker to assign a carrier
  • 2 days for carrier pick up
  • 1 day for carrier to load all his vehicles
  • 3 days in transit / on the road
  • 1 day for carrier to unload all his vehicles

Total 14 days from start to finish for Cheap Auto Transport.

Expedited Car Shipping / $100-$200 Additional

  • 3 days for broker to assign a carrier
  • 2 days for carrier pick up
  • 1 day for carrier to load all his vehicles
  • 3 days in transit / on the road
  • 1 day for carrier to unload all his vehicles

Total 10 days from start to finish for Expedited Car Shipping.

Rush Vehicle Shipping / $300-$400 Additional

  • 1 days for broker to assign a carrier
  • 2 days for carrier pick up
  • 1 day for carrier to load all his vehicles
  • 3 days in transit / on the road
  • 1 day for carrier to unload all his vehicles

Total 8 days from start to finish for Rush Vehicle Shipping.

The extra money on the carrier fee hastens the search for assignment. It shortens the wait for assignment, which is really the only part of the car shipping process that can be speeded up. Every other aspect is what it is. You can’t speed up the loading or unloading. The number of days on the road is governed by the FMCSA. The drivers cannot legally go faster in transit.

That leaves only the time it takes for a broker to find a carrier to assign. Money has a lot to do with the speed of that.

Other Factors That Affect How Long It Takes To Ship A Car

There are other things that may affect how long it takes to ship a car. While the carrier fee, or money, is paramount, here are other considerations.

Car Shipping Route

The unpopularity of a car shipping route can affect the number of days it takes to assign a driver. Think of it this way:

  • Fast Popular Route: Detroit to Dallas
  • Medium Route: Lansing to Dallas
  • Slower Route: Lansing to Lubbock
  • Extremely Slow Route: Cadillac, MI to Lubbock

Involving a rural location on either end of the vehicle shipment will likely slow things down. The remedy is to add more money to entice a carrier. Patience becomes important.

Type of Vehicle

Sedans ship faster than SUVs, which ship faster than Pick-Up Trucks

Smaller SUVs ship faster than big SUVs.

And smaller Pick-Up Trucks ship faster than big Pick-Up Trucks.

Carrier Driver Hours of Operation

The Department of Transportation correctly keeps drivers safer, and the public too. We share the road with truck drivers, and we all need them to get plenty of rest. No nodding off on the road. Here are the FMCSA rules.

Seasonality

How long it takes to ship a car is also affected by the time of year, the seasons. In the northern states and Rocky Mountains, the warmer weather months are far easier to car ship than in the winter months. In the winter, in the north, count on it taking longer regardless of the carrier fee.

Stormy Weather

Bad weather will slow car shipments down. Especially hurricanes. Icy conditions in southern states will cause havoc as they are simply not used to it. Tornadoes and arctic storms will also slow things.

In recent years, global climate change that causes huge fires in the western states will derail car shipping schedules.

The Bottom Line On How Long It Takes To Ship a Car

Shipping a car is not like overnighting a package. It is not nearly as predictable. About the only thing a customer can do is reduce the wait time for a carrier assignment, because everything else is on autopilot. To make vehicle shipments go faster is simple, just add money.

I’m Shipping My Vehicle To A Family Member In Boston

We often talk to customers who are shipping a vehicle out of state to a family member. Sometimes it is a parent transporting a car to a son or daughter. Sometimes it is a grandmother or grandfather who has passed away and a family member is inheriting their vehicle. Whatever the reason, we are here to help get it done.

There Is A Car Show In Boston

Seems like every few days, there is a car show somewhere in America. Especially in the good weather months and warmer winter climates. It is actually a high stress situation for anyone trying to get a collector or sports car to a car show on time. Reputable auto transport brokers cannot and should not guarantee delivery dates, and that doesn’t sit well with folks who absolutely must have their vehicle delivered by a certain date.

Seasonal Atlanta to Boston Auto Transport

As the seasons change, there are fluctuations in the auto transport industry. The peak car shipping season is April through September. There is nearly 50% more car shipments during that warm weather period than there are in October through March. Call that a huge seasonal fluctuation, which creates interesting changes in auto transport pricing too. Sometimes it is higher in one direction than the reverse. It is always good to periodically check our car shipping rates from Atlanta to Boston.

Snowbird Auto Transport beach scene

Snowbird Auto Transport

The most popular form of seasonal car shipping is called Snowbird Auto Transport. A “snowbird” auto shipping customer is usually from a colder northern state, who then heads south for the winter. Renting a car for months is too expensive. So the snowbird customer will ship a car instead. Smart.

Most people escaping the winters head to a state that enjoys year-round summer weather, like Florida, which is by far the most popular snowbird destination. However, other popular snowbird states are California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas. Gulf coast Louisiana and Alabama are also favored snowbird destinations.

College Student Atlanta to Boston Auto Transport

For the most part, we see a flurry of college student auto shipping every August and September, and then again in May and June. Maybe it was always dangerous for a college student to drive across country alone in the 60’s and 70’s, and we just didn’t realize it, but we get it now. The safest and smartest thing to do is to ship a car to your college student and fly them there.

Top Auto Transport FAQ’s from Atlanta to Boston

Houston to Atlanta Auto Transport FAQ

How Far In Advance Should You Set Up Your Atlanta to Boston Auto Transport Order?

We recommend scheduling your auto transport anywhere from two days to two weeks in advance. We are often able to ship your car on the very same day, but providing us with a longer lead time allows us to schedule your vehicle transport better. You want the most current pricing, and you get that by staying within two weeks of your first available date to ship.

Should I Ship My Car Open or Enclosed from Atlanta to Boston?

About 97% of all vehicle shipments are shipped on an Open Trailer. It’s proven to be a very safe method with statistically very few problems. You may notice new cars being delivered to dealerships in an open trailer, and that’s because it’s safe. If you have a collector car or really expensive automobile, say around $100,000 or more, then we recommend shipping it in an Enclosed Trailer. But it is up to the customer to decide what is best for him or her. Direct Express Auto Transport is an industry authority and can guide you on that decision.

Is It Better To Pay An Auto Transport Deposit?

Making a nominal partial payment is preferred by carriers but not essential. Carriers like getting paid with Cash or Money Order upon delivery for services rendered, and who doesn’t? A partial credit card payment and balance due upon delivery accomplishes that. But a full credit card payment upfront also works if the carrier trusts the broker. Carriers have known Direct Express Auto Transport for nearly twenty years and the trust is there. So either method works with us.

Should I Insure My Vehicle While In Transit from Atlanta to Boston?

All auto transportation carriers are required by the US Department of Transportation to have a current and valid insurance policy. Direct Express Auto Transport double checks the insurance policy prior to assigning the customer vehicle to any carrier. That said, we do recommend that a customer not depend entirely on the car shipping carrier’s insurance policy because sometimes acts of God, such as hail, sleet, snowstorms, hurricanes, tornadoes and more might damage your vehicle. Those things are not covered by the carrier’s policy, but they would be by your personal policy. Car transport service drivers are only responsible for negligence.

When I Ship My Car, Can I Put Stuff In It?

The strict D.O.T. interpretation is no, you cannot ship items inside your vehicle. However, the reality is that almost all carriers allow items that weigh less than 100 pounds, roughly the equivalent of 2 suitcases. We recommend placing any additional items in the trunk and out of sight. The U.S. Transportation Law states that a carrier can be fined $10,000 for hauling household items in the vehicle, but it’s rarely enforced. However, the auto transport drivers do estimate the weight of each vehicle and don’t want problems at weight scales. So they must keep the personal items to a minimum.

Some drivers will accept a tip ($50-$300) for hauling extra stuff, but some won’t, or simply can’t, due to the overall weight. Rule of thumb, don’t take advantage. The driver is there to ship your car, not move your personal belongings.

An Atlanta to Boston Auto Transport driver prepares a vehicle for shipment

How Long Will It Take To Pick Up My Vehicle In Atlanta?

Over 90% of our orders ship inside of one week. That could be anywhere from 1 to 7 days. Most of the U.S. population lives in a major metropolitan area and is shipping to another well populated area, and that makes a big difference. Cars usually ship in a very regular manner, almost half within just a few days. Atlanta is a large metropolitan area, so we would expect a timely carrier assignment and pick up.

How Long Does It Take To Deliver My Vehicle To Boston?

Delivering your car to Boston is the final step in the process, and also the simplest part. Once your vehicle has been assigned and picked up, not too much can go wrong. After your vehicle is picked up, you can estimate that it will take roughly one day of transit time for every 500 miles distance.

Delivery Time Estimate Guide

100-500 miles takes 1 or 2 days
500-1000 miles takes 2 or 3 days
1000-1500 miles takes 3 or 4 days
1500-2000 miles takes 4 or 5 days
2000-2500 miles takes 5 or 6 days
2500-3000 miles takes 6 or 7 days

Depending on the distance, weather conditions and population centers it could be a few days or weeks until a vehicle reaches its destination. The carriers will usually estimate about 10 days on coast to coast trips, but they frequently arrive earlier.

How Do I Prepare My Vehicle For Shipment?

In Atlanta, clean out your vehicle of all loose items as much as possible. Leave nothing of value in the vehicle. It’s very rare that any items are stolen during transport, but we recommend extra caution to prevent loss.

Keep extra items as previously discussed to a minimum and place in the trunk or out of sight. Have only about a quarter tank of gasoline. Give the auto transport carrier a set of keys and advise them of any special instructions for your vehicle, like difficulty starting, steering, braking, etc..

Driver Consideration: Being a truck driver can be a thankless job. They work long hours and are away from their families for weeks at a time. Please be friendly and considerate to our drivers once they arrive in Boston, and they will treat you in the same manner. Most people tip them $50 to $100 for a job well done.

Snowbird Car Shipping and the Beach

College Student Auto Shipping From Houston to Atlanta

For the most part, we see a flurry of college student auto shipping every August and September, and then again in May and June. Maybe it was always dangerous for a college student to drive across country alone in the 60’s and 70’s, and we just didn’t realize it, but we get it now. The safest and smartest thing to do is to ship a car to your college student and fly them there.

Top Auto Transport FAQ’s from Houston to Atlanta

Houston to Atlanta Auto Transport FAQ

How Far In Advance Should You Set Up Your Houston to Atlanta Car Shipping Order?

We recommend scheduling your auto transport anywhere from two days to two weeks in advance. We are often able to ship your car on the very same day, but providing us with a longer lead time allows us to schedule your vehicle transport better. You want the most current pricing, and you get that by staying within two weeks of your first available date to ship.

Should I Ship My Car Open or Enclosed from Houston to Atlanta?

Should I Insure My Vehicle While In Transit from Houston to Atlanta?

How Long Will It Take To Pick Up My Vehicle In Houston?

Over 90% of our orders ship inside of one week. That could be anywhere from 1 to 7 days. Most of the U.S. population lives in a major metropolitan area and is shipping to another well populated area, and that makes a big difference. Cars usually ship in a very regular manner, almost half within just a few days. Houston is a large metropolitan area, so we would expect a timely carrier assignment and pick up.

How Long Does It Take To Deliver My Vehicle To Atlanta?

Delivering your car to Atlanta is the final step in the process, and also the simplest part. Once your vehicle has been assigned and picked up, not too much can go wrong. After your vehicle is picked up, you can estimate that it will take roughly one day of transit time for every 500 miles distance.

Delivery Time Estimate Guide

100-500 miles takes 1 or 2 days
500-1000 miles takes 2 or 3 days
1000-1500 miles takes 3 or 4 days
1500-2000 miles takes 4 or 5 days
2000-2500 miles takes 5 or 6 days
2500-3000 miles takes 6 or 7 days

Depending on the distance, weather conditions and population centers it could be a few days or weeks until a vehicle reaches its destination. The carriers will usually estimate about 10 days on coast to coast trips, but they frequently arrive earlier.

How Do I Prepare My Vehicle For Shipment?

In Houston, TX, clean out your vehicle of all loose items as much as possible.

Please be friendly and considerate to our drivers once they arrive in Atlanta, and they will treat you in the same manner. Most people tip them $50 to $100 for a job well done.

Cost to Ship a Car: A Comprehensive Guide

Relocating to a new place can be an exciting experience, but shipping a car can quickly become stressful and overwhelming. Whether you’re moving across the country or just a few states away, the cost to ship a car will be one of your biggest concerns. In this article, we’ll take a deep dive into the world of car shipping and provide you with all the information you need to make an informed decision.

Factors That Affect The Cost To Ship a Car

The cost of shipping a car depends on several factors, including the move’s distance, the vehicle’s size and weight, and the shipping method. Let’s take a closer look at each of these factors.

Distance

The distance of the move is the most significant factor affecting the cost of shipping a car. Longer distances usually mean higher prices. That is because the shipping company will have to spend more time and resources transporting the vehicle from one place to another.

Size and Weight of the Vehicle

The size and weight of the vehicle also play a crucial role in determining the cost of car shipping. Larger vehicles, such as SUVs and trucks, are more expensive to transport than smaller vehicles, such as sedans. That is because larger vehicles require more fuel and space on the auto transport truck and are more challenging to load and unload.

Shipping Method

The shipping method you choose will also significantly impact the cost to ship a car. There are two main methods: open and enclosed shipping. Open vehicle shipping, also called open-air transport, is the most common and affordable option, while enclosed shipping is more secure and expensive.

Average Cost of Shipping a Car

The average cost of shipping a car ranges from $500 to $2,000. This estimate is based on vehicle shipping a standard-sized car within the contiguous United States. However, the actual cost will vary based on the factors discussed above.

Saving Money on Car Shipping

There are several ways to save money on car shipping. Here are some tips to help you reduce the cost of shipping your car:

  • Book in Advance: Booking your shipment in advance will give you more time to compare prices and find the best deal.
  • Compare Quotes: Get quotes from multiple shipping companies and compare the prices to find the best deal.
  • Choose the Right Shipping Method: Choose the most suitable shipping method based on your budget and the level of security you need.
  • Be Flexible with Pick-up and Delivery Dates: Flexibility with pick-up and delivery dates can help you save money.
  • Consider Shipping During Off-Peak Seasons: Shipping during off-peak seasons can be less expensive than shipping during peak seasons.

Search For The Best Car Shipping Company For You

Another way to ensure a successful car shipping experience is to work with a reputable and experienced auto transport company. Do your research, read reviews, and ask for recommendations from friends and family. A reputable auto transport company will have the necessary equipment, expertise, and experience to transport your vehicle safely and efficiently. Remember, the key to saving money on vehicle shipping is to compare quotes, choose the best shipping method, and be flexible with pick-up and delivery dates.

In addition to working with a reputable car shipping company, it’s also important to properly prepare your car for shipping. That includes removing all personal items from the vehicle, checking for any existing damage and making a note of it, and ensuring that your car is in good working condition.

Make Sure Your Vehicle Is Adequately Insured

Finally, ensure adequate insurance coverage for your vehicle during transit. Most car shipping companies will offer insurance coverage, but it’s essential to understand the details and ensure that you have the right coverage for your needs. Maintaining your private auto insurance is also a wise thing to do.

Conclusion

The distance, size, and weight of the vehicle and the shipping method all play a crucial role in determining the cost of shipping a car. Considering these factors, you can make an informed decision and ensure a smooth and cost-effective car shipping experience.

Shipping a car can be a complex and challenging process, but with the right preparation and planning, you can make the experience as stress-free and cost-effective as possible. By considering the factors that affect the cost of shipping, working with a reputable car shipping company, preparing your car properly, and having adequate insurance coverage, you can ensure a successful and enjoyable car transport experience.

How Much Does Car Shipping Cost?

The cost of car shipping can vary greatly depending on several factors, such as the distance being shipped, the type of vehicle being shipped, and the method of shipping (open or enclosed carrier, for example). On average, car shipping can usually cost anywhere from $400 to $2,000 for a standard sedan but can be significantly more for larger vehicles, or shipping over greater distances. It’s best to get a quote from a reputable car shipping company to get an accurate estimate for your specific situation.

Does Car Shipping Cost More The Greater The Distance?

The distance being shipped is one of the main factors that can affect the cost of car shipping. The further the distance, the more expensive the car shipping price will be. This is because the shipping company will have to spend more on fuel, labor, and other expenses to transport the vehicle a greater distance. Additionally, the demand for shipping cars over longer distances may be less, which can also drive up the cost.

In general, shipping a car a short distance (less than 500 miles) will be less expensive than shipping it a longer distance (more than 1000 miles). However, the specific cost will depend on other factors such as the type of vehicle being shipped, the method of shipping, and the company you choose.

Do Larger Vehicles Affect The Cost of Auto Transport?

The type of vehicle being shipped can also affect the cost of car shipping. Larger and heavier vehicles, such as trucks, SUVs, and vans, will typically cost more to ship than smaller and lighter vehicles, such as sedans and hatchbacks. This is because larger vehicles take up more space on the carrier and require more fuel and labor to transport. Additionally, special equipment may be required to load and unload larger vehicles, which can also add to the cost.

Exotic, high-value, and luxury vehicles may also cost more to ship than standard vehicles because they require special handling, and often require enclosed carriers for safe and secure transportation. These kinds of vehicles also have a higher insurance cost that the shipping company will want to cover.

Is It Cheaper With Open or Enclosed Car Transport?

The type of trailer used to ship a vehicle can also affect the cost of car shipping. There are two main types of trailers used to ship vehicles: open and enclosed.

Open trailers are the most common type used for car shipping. They are less expensive than enclosed trailers and are suitable for most types of vehicles. However, open trailers offer less protection for the vehicle, as they are exposed to the elements and other hazards during transport.

Enclosed trailers, on the other hand, provide more protection for the vehicle as they are fully enclosed. They are typically more expensive than open trailers but are recommended for high-value, luxury, and exotic vehicles as they offer more security and protection during transport.

Do Vehicle Transporters Consider Seasonality?

Seasonality can also affect the cost of car shipping. During peak shipping seasons, such as spring and summer, the demand for car shipping services tends to be higher, which can drive up the cost. Additionally, during the winter months, inclement weather conditions can make shipping more difficult and expensive, due to longer transit times, road closures, and the need for specialized equipment to handle snow and ice.

During peak seasons, shipping companies may also charge a premium for their services, as they are in high demand. On the other hand, during off-peak seasons, shipping companies may offer discounts or special deals to attract customers.

It’s important to note that the specific cost of car shipping will depend on other factors such as the distance being shipped, the type of vehicle and the type of trailer, and the company you choose. It’s always best to get quotes from multiple car shipping companies and compare prices to ensure you’re getting the best deal for your specific situation. Also, it’s worth considering the shipping date during the off-peak season, because it may save some cost.
